- New access road to Goldstream Bicycles

7 10 2011

Those of you who have visited the shop in recent months have likely noticed the road work, not to mention the new condo building (“The Granderson”). The road work is now complete, which means there’s a new way to access Goldstream Bicycles.

When heading eastbound on Goldstream Avenue (ie. towards Colwood) and wanting to turn left, you no longer turn left directly into our parking lot. Instead, you turn left a few metres further down, on the new road built on the far side of The Granderson. This new road is called McMurdo, and from there you can turn left onto Granderson Road and slip right into our parking lot.

Heading up Goldstream from Colwood, you now have the choice of the new road (McMurdo) or going a little further and making a right turn at the end of our parking lot.

- Open Labour Day

4 09 2011

Goldstream Bicycles is open spring and summer stats, so Labour Day is the last statutory holiday we will be open for 2011. We will have a mechanic on staff for those flat repairs and other consequences of your long weekend ride, and also be there for those back-to-school bike sales.

Speaking of sales, all our 2011 road bikes are on sale over 15% off, and we have also discounted all of our high-end commuter hybrids. There are many other sales at the moment (2011 Kona Jake for $799.99, regular $1049.99, Verde BMX bikes 20% off, and much more), so Labour Day is a great opportunity to see it all.

If you haven’t already, please check out our Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.) section where you can read a wide variety of articles on cycling topics, and check back regularly this autumn and winter as we start adding new articles to it and update the existing ones.

New articles are being added periodically, such as a recent one on how to clean a bike, and a section on bicycle clothing.

- the HST referendum re: bikes

26 07 2011

With the deadline approaching for submitting HST referendum ballots approaching, we are getting a lot of questions regarding the HST referendum and bicycles from people who are undecided. Here is how the HST affects bikes.

At present bicycles are taxed at 12%. The provincial government has proposed to drop the HST to 10% between now and the year 2014.

Under the previous PST/GST taxes (that the referendum proposes to change back to), most things you would pay for in a bicycle shop would be taxed at only 5%. Bicycles, safety equipment, shop labour, and more would be taxed at only 5%, with only a small number of items being taxed at 12%. Even if the HST does drop to 10% over the next few years, as has been proposed, bike customers will be paying more tax than they would if we reverted back to the GST/HST.

To vote in the HST referendum, Elections BC has to receive your ballot on Friday, August 5th (merely post-marked August 5th is not enough, it must arrive in their offices by August 5th). If you have any further questions about how the HST affects bicycles, our staff would be happy to answer them.
